Donate to Palestine

quirkymuslimah:

Instead of doing a traditional wedding registry, Nayef and I have decided that we want to do a charity registry to donate to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Anyone is welcome to donate. If you cannot donate yourself, then please share so that others can see it and potentially donate. Our goal is to raise $2500. Jazakallah Khair.

Call your mother. Tell her you love her. Remember you’re the only person who knows what her heart sounds like from the inside.

Ten Ways to Remain Firm Upon Islam
1. Seek Allah’s help for guidance and steadfastness. Allah has praised the Du’a of the scholars in the Qur’an:  “Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower.”
2. Sit with righteous people and attend circles of remembrance of Allah like Islamic lectures enthusiastically. Visit pious people.
3. Study the lives of righteous people by reading books or listening to tapes about them. Give more emphasis on studying the biographies of the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
4. Frequently listen to Khutbahs and lectures that soften the heart and are emotional.
5. Observe the obligatory deeds, like performing the five daily prayers and making up the missed fasts of Ramadan, with care, due to the great good that obligatory deeds carry.
6. Do voluntary deeds, even if they are few, that are easy and loved by the heart. Surely the most beloved deeds to Allah are the consistent ones even if they are few, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) informed us.
7. Start memorizing the Qur’an. Recite it constantly and as much as possible. Recite what you memorized in the voluntary prayers.
8. Remember Allah and seek His forgiveness, i.e. do Dhikr and Istighfar. Surely these are easy deeds but their benefit is immense. They increase the Iman (faith) and strengthen the heart.
9. Stay as far away as possible from ‘the corrupter’s of the heart’, like bad friends, television, satellite channels, music, obscene magazines, etc.
10. Repent as quickly as possible. With sincere repentance, by the will of Allah, there will be no turning back. Indeed Allah becomes very happy when His servant repents.

Magnum Photos: Bamiyan province, Afghanistan

Photographs taken between 1992 and 2008 by Steve McCurry and Moises Saman. Click on each photo for the source/photographer.

Bamiyan is a province in the central highlands of Afghanistan, locally known as Hazarajat. Its population consists of predominately Hazaras, who make up the third largest ethnic group in Afghanistan.

The province attracts tourists from around the world because of its visual and archaeological beauty, for example its series of six deep blue lakes (one of the few rare natural lakes in the world which are created by travertine systems) - known as the Band-e Amir lakes  - and the remains (niches) of the Buddhas of Bamiyan (built in 507 AD and 554 AD). The giant Buddhas were destroyed under a series of attacks by the Afghan King Amir Abdur Rahman Khan and later, the Taliban. In this set of photos, you can see how the Buddhas were gradually destroyed and completely obliterated.

After years of war and mass-murder of its population rooted in ethnic/sectarian violence, the province of Bamiyan is now one of the four most secure provinces in Afghanistan, which stands in stark contrast with Bamiyan’s neighboring provinces in eastern Afghanistan, whom are extremely insecure. The cultural heritage and natural beauty of this province has helped it attract thousands of tourists from all around the world.

France’s Socialist government provoked outrage today by becoming the first in the world to ban protests against Israeli action in Palestine.

In what is viewed as an outrageous attack on democracy, Socialist Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said mass demonstrations planned for the weekend should be halted.

Mr Cazeneuve said there was a ‘threat to public order’, while opponents said he was ‘criminalising’ popular support of the Palestinian people.

I have so much to post.

Okay I haven’t really been on here in a month (I had enough stuff on my queue to last weeks) so hello to all my new followers :)

Here is a life update- I moved out of Huntington and it kind of sucks. I’m living in one of the poorest places in USA. (It’s so poor they can only afford to send the kids to school around 110 days a year instead of the required 180.) I don’t have wifi here so I don’t update much. I’m going to Kuwait on Wednesday for two weeks and I’ll have wifi there so I can post then. I have a lot of photos and interesting stuff to tell you guys :)

I just found out my dad was murdered.

I guess that they found some stuff on a security cam in a parking lot in Roanoke and whatever they found on it was enough to arrest the dude for killing my dad.

I don’t even know what to think or feel at this point.
